After an eventfull bus trip that felt more like a boat trip on high waters we arrived in Foz at 09:30. We were very relieved when the friendly lady at the tourism counter was able to assist us in english. Our new hostel was another bustrip and short walk away, in the main road with loud Indian (???) music, but clean beds and a great (cold) shower.
We were extremely tired but had to make the best of the day, so we decided to go and have a look at the Itaipo dam. It is an enormous dam that generates 14 MWatts of hidro- electricity power. The damwall is officially located in Paraguy but due to the bi-national agreement in place with Brazil, we did not get our passports stamped.

Our first full day in Foz do Iguaçu took us across into Argentina enroute to the Iguaçu waterfalls. The falls are located in a national park on the border between Brazil and Argentina. Activities in the park included numerous walking traills, a boat trip across the river to the San Marina island below the falls and train rides between major gathering points. The lookout points had majestic views of masses of water dropping approx. 70 meters.

Following breakfast on day 3 in Iguaçu we decided to visit the Parque del Aves (bird sancuary). Once again, after jumping onto the local bus services, an awesome experience awaited us. The aray of colours presented by the birds was tremendous. Two of the highlights were when a friendly Tucan chewed on my finger (all in good spirit though) and a little hummingbird doing its rounds in the butterfly enclosure.

The plan for tomorrow is to jump onto a bus with destination Rio and Carnival approaching. I will be spending the majority of my 34th birthday on the bus, which departs Iguaçu at 12 noon and is scheduled to arrive in Rio more or less 24hours later.
Last thing to mention is breakfast in Brazil. On day 2 it was a bit weird, but now it is becoming the norm. Amungst all the fruit, breakfast typically also includes 3 or more types of sweet cake – this definitely helps my sweet tooth get through the day!
